The Surly Pugsley is finally done.

Got the word yesterday the Puglsey was complete. Caught a ride to work with Susan today so I could walk over after work to Boreal Bicycle Works and pick up the Pug and ride it home. Bryn gave me one heck of a deal on the frame, parts and labor. It's one insane ride. It looks like a tank (and is, relatively speaking), but it doesn't ride like one. Once I got it rolling it was easy to maintain 16 mph on the flats with a slight headwind. After I got home I took it back out to take a few laps around the inside of the quarry one block from our house. It's hidden in the hillside just above my neighborhood. The quarry is very rocky and the 4" wide Endomorph tires just absorb everything. It was fun.

This shows one of my favorite components of the build up, the Paul Component Engineering's Thumb Shifters or "Thumbies". It's an adaptor that turns Shimano Barcon (bar end) shifters into thumb shifters. Very few moving parts and nearly indestructable. The perfect shifter for extreme conditions. Also check out Paul Component Engineering's new SS Cranks. Those are cool!

I managed to get out for a quick spin on the road bike this evening. The legs are nearly fully recovered from my century two days ago. I never thought I'd reach a point in my riding when a century is no big deal. But I'm there. I'm ready for longer rides.

Mileage update:
Monday: 16 mi
Tuesday: 28 mi
September: 320 mi
2006 total: 5,687 mi

I'm wishing I lived a little closer to Duluth right now. I'd like to see that bad boy up close, personal, and in action. Must resist the urge to do this myself. Or, I need to cull one out of the fleet (of four) first.
