A summer like commute for a change.

Summer takes a while to get here some years. Today was much more like summer. Warm enough in the morning for shorts and a t-shirt. The afternoon was a bit steamy with temps in the mid-80's. Enough to make the sweat pour off me for a change.
Even had some haze from the humidity looking out over the harbor and big lake.
I stopped along Skyline Drive to snap some pictures of a big lakes freighter leaving the shipping canal after passing out of the harbor under the lift bridge.

And off it went into the big lake bound for some other Great Lakes port. The white speck to the left of the freighter is a sailboat. Gives some perspective of how far one can see and how big this lake is. It really is like an inland sea.

I made it to the Monday Night ride. I wasn't looking for a fast or long ride. Just wanted to get out for some miles in the warm evening. But I ended up with the faster group. We did 37 miles at a 17 mph pace. Faster then I usually like to ride, but I seemed to be the freshest of anybody at the end of the ride, except for one other guy. One rider got chased and bit by a farm dog during the ride. Jumped right up and bit her just below the left butt cheek. It didn't tear her shorts but there was some obvious blood. I'd been chased a half dozen times by the same dogs this year and last.

Those curious about the Xtracycle project should know I'm off next week. My place of work closes for a week during the summer. I'll put off finishing it until next week because this week is just too busy. But it will be my priority for next. It will get done and out on the road!!

Your photos look a lot like Marselle

The group rides can get crazy. Fortunately there is usually a natural selection where people form groups early in the ride.
