It is unanimous. I will be showing pictures of the build-up as it occurs. Since I am an amateur wrench, please let me know if you see something that just isn't right. Patience will be asked of all readers. When I am attempting something new that requires skills I don't possess, I tend to work very slowly and think through every step. This has come from years of experience of really screwing things up and having to pay big dollars to correct my mistakes. But hey, it's a learning experience.

I had a pleasant surprise when I stopped at Twin Ports Cyclery to drop the frame off so Denis could put in the headset and BB for me. Denis took the frame and without a word took it downstairs where the repair area is. My dad, who is in town from Michigan, went along for the ride. I looked at my dad and said, "I guess he's going to do it while we wait". Sure enough, he did. I had expected to leave it for 2 or 3 days. What a guy that Denis is!

The BB is in.

The Ritchey Logic headset is in. I also needed a new stem. But since I'm switching to a new set of bars that I have never used before, I wasn't sure how to size it. Denis let me borrow this fine looking stem until I decide what size I want. After 31 years in the bike business Denis has boxes and shelves full of used parts. But trying to find a two bolt stem for 1" threaded fork was a bit of a challenge. But he had one! If this stem happens to fit I might keep it just because it is so awful ugly.

My new front wheel built by Jim at
Hiawatha Cyclery in Minneapolis. A 36 hole XT hub and Sun Rhyno Lite rim. And of course, a Schwalbe Big Apple tire just like the back wheel.

Mucho Gracious! I meant to leave a comment agreeing with everyone else about the pics. This is sweet. Your efforts are much appreciated by all. It's also a way that we can live vicariously though your build up and learn a thing or two. Best of luck with the rest of the build. Cheers.
hey Doug, just thought of this question for you, so is your extracycle going to have the seat deck with foot pedals for a passenger(I thought of this question while reading a previous post about you running for drivers license, because you two run errands together) my spouse and I do the same, so it got me thinking about the deck with the foot things.
monkeygirl...don't think Susan would want to ride along on the Xtracycle. And I have no one else that I can think of that I would give a ride to. So, I'll pass on the footsies option for now. They are a great idea though!
