Fun in a winter storm

My plan to get out on the trails with the Pugsley was again changed today by a huge winter storm blowing through. The storm is good news. With it, it brings colder temps and lots of snow to help recover the snow melt down we had last week. However it did keep me off the trails. By the time I got out today we had over 8 inches of snow and it was still coming down at an inch or more an hour. The Endomorph tires are great in snow, but even they don't do well in 8 inches of fresh snow. This is our third big storm this month. This month has been much more winterly than normal. Along with the heavy snowfall we were having sustained winds at 23 mph and gusts over 40 mph. I personally think some of the gusts were higher than that. A few times I was nearly blown over when hit by a gust.
Today I stuck to the streets. The partially plowed streets I could ride pretty well with the tires at 7 psi. The unplowed streets were nearly impossible to plow through unless I stayed in a car tire track.
It wasn't quite blizzard conditions, but darn near close. At times, with the gusty winds blowing the snow, it was near white out conditions.
We are supposed to get another 4-6 inches this evening, with a total for the storm of 10-15 inches.
This is the entrance to the snowmobile trail less than one mile from my house. That overpass is I35. There were signs of a few snowmobiles having passed through within an hour or two. I tried to see if I could get anywhere on the trail. It was hopeless. The tires would sink in the snow. It was nearly impossible to keep enough momentum to keep moving forward without the front tire going out from under me.
More side streets and white-out conditions. Hard to see the end of the next block.
I love snow and winter. I think Dash Riprock loves it as much or more than me. He loves playing in the snow with his frisbee. He's a crazy dawg!

I rode a total of 6 miles the 54 minutes I was out. It seemed more like three hours in the howling wind, blowing snow and difficult conditions. It was a great time!!!

Looks like a great time for sure! Man I wish we had snow like that! I don't think we've had a whole 1.5 inches yet this year. Cheers.

Yeah, thanks for sharing, Doug. At least I can get to enjoy the winter months vicariously through your pics.

I'm actually pretty happy we don't have any snow in Calgary at the moment. It is chilly, but I can ride my bikes without any special preparation and I don't have to deal with a dirty/slushy bike when I get back to my apartment.

Oh ya I forgot - Jerome is looking for an excuse to buy a Pugsely....=-) No wonder he is praying for snow...=-)

Wow, beautiful photos. They make me wish we had snow, although I have to admit I'm enjoying our warmers (40s) temps right now. That looks like a lot of fun riding.
