Yeehaw....that's was the funnest bicycle commute ever!

Yesterday they were forecasting 1-2 inches of snowfall during the day today. I decided to ride the Pugsley to work again just in case we got that snow. The Pugsley does much better on a few inches of snow then the studded tires on the Cross Check do. Studded tires are worth there weight in gold when you have ice on the road. But for snow, I'll take the 4' wide Endomorphs.Instead of 1-2 inches of snow, this is what I saw when I went to ride home. At some point during the day the storm track changed. We ended up getting the full force of the storm and a double whammy from lake effect snow off Lake Superior.
My best guess, during the ride, was we had gotten at least 8-10 inches. It wasn't even snowing when I left for work this morning. I later learned we got 15 inches at my house. Nearly 2 inches an hour all day had to fall to get that total. After the slippery snow I rode on over the weekend I had concerns I'd be pushing the bike the 8 miles home. This snow was different. I was able to ride the whole way, with the exception of a couple of steep hills I lost speed on and couldn't get restarted. I'm fortunate I can take Skyline Parkway most of the way. It has low traffic. Even lower during snow storms because it is one of the last roads to get plowed. Many sections I rode today were unplowed. There were only three types of vehicles that could travel the unplowed parts: four-wheel drive trucks, snowmobiles, and Fat Tire snowbikes.
Starting to get dark and the snow is still coming down hard on Twin Ponds.
This is an unplowed section of Skyline around Enger Park. Just a few 4-wheel drive vehicle tracks to ride in.
The obligatory "I'm more hardcore than you" shot.
Man this was fun!!! It took me one hour and 30 minutes to get home. I had to stop and get off to the side every time a car came by. It usually only takes me 35 minutes to get home. That's okay, Susan said it took her an hour and 45 minutes to go less than three miles in traffic this evening. It's possible I made it home faster than some people traveling in cars.
The last two miles was dark and only a tire track in the snow to follow.

Last December the Pugsley was still new and untried in snow. And we never got any significant snow amounts until March. Looks like we'll be having snow around for some time now.

Wow. Look at all that snow. I am so jealous.

But it does look like a ton of fun. I hope good things continue to come your way!

Man, I wish we'd get some of that snow here in CO! It's way too dry & warm here right now for December.

Yah, you are more hardcore than me, but I got a couple of km's of XC skiing in before my shoulders gave out. No matter how you handle it, this winter is going to be great.

Since I can't afford a one-trick pony like that Clown Bike of yours (I still need to put mega-bucks, into my car), I need to start practicing one of two things: 1.) riding in that 4 inch trail you Pugsley guyz make; or 2.) get the skis out and start pulling a sled...If the trend continues, this could be the first time that a skier could potentially win the overall Arrowhead 135!!!

We did not have 1012 inches like you, but it was fun riding in the new 4 inches yesterday!

How well did your disc brakes hold up? Did they freeze up?
