I've got brakes now!

So yesterday I got the bike cleaned up and did some brake work. The brakes worked so much better. In fact, on the first downhill I touched the rear brake and locked it up on dry pavement (covered in sand). Yesterday, the brakes were in such bad shape I couldn't lock them up for any reason. I guess I had some success from my hour long maintenance blitz last night.

It felt nice riding a nearly clean bike for a change. Everything about it seemed to work better and ride better. We are about to have a brief January thaw. Something that isn't uncommon. So the clean bike won't last but a day or two.

This morning the warm-up was supposed to be happening. However, the cloud cover broke overnight. With no clouds the temps plummeted. Instead of the low in the 20's that was forecast, it was 12 degrees at my house in the morning. After my climb up to the ridge the temperature was dipping near 5 degrees. With no wind, it was very pleasant. The afternoon commute was short, but nice with the temp around 26 degrees. Tonight, we're off to my wife's Holiday Office Party.

January: 74 mi

Nice isn't it? Having good brakes and all.

Hey, I just saw a reference to your being an inspiration to others than just myself. He's joined the 12hrs blog and just thought I'd share how you've inspired him if you haven't seen it already. Check out the "about me" http://welshcyclist.blogspot.com/
Keep up the great work. I'm not the only one who enjoys reading your blog. Thanks.
