Another bitter cold commute
Another day, another commute at 11 below zero with windchills even colder. By afternoon it had warmed up all the way to 2 degrees above zero. I thought my legs were feeling better and the recovery was well on it's way. My body is saying different tonight. After a week of work and commuting, I'm exhausted.
I plan on a good nights sleep before tomorrow's quick trip to Minneapolis and back. One of the many stops I have planned is to Hiawatha Cyclery. I did a post last month about my next bike. Would it be a Surly Long Haul Trucker or a Rivendell Atlantis? Soon after that post I made my decision, called up Hiawatha, talked to Jim and ordered a bike. I called down there today, talked to KM. He said Jim was putting the final touches on it as we spoke. Jim and KM offer great customer service.
So which one did I buy? I've told a few of you already, but didn't say anything on this blog yet. If you don't know, you'll have to wait another day or so until I get it and snap a few pictures.
While in the cities, I'll also stop at REI. Another one of my favorite stops. It's dangerous stopping there. But not always, sometimes it's just fun to look around.
I had thought about trying to make the HC Saturday morning ride. But it just wasn't working out. Someday I hope to catch that ride when I'm in town.

It's Coming!!
do a poll, i say a SURLY.I bet you feel like a kid at Christmas.CONGRATS!
I think about going back to REI all the time since I was there last week. It's a gas just to browse and get ideas. It's all you fault:)
My guess is the Surley.
You had a good day for a maiden ride on the [CENSORED]in MPLS, Doug! I had mine out for only the second time today since there were Spring like roads - amazing after flogging Nokians all this past while. I hope the roads are good to you getting back up to Duluth and that your REI withdrawal isn't too rough. (We live a dangerously short ride from their Roseville store, so I'm with on that.)
Enjoy the wheels!
I stopped by HCHQ to buy a dish stick to finish building the wheel for the winter commuter. They didn't have one to sell, but they were kind enough to loan me one.
Oh, and we talked about Portland.
A lot.
Too bad I didn't see you. I hope you enjoy the [BIKE].
Oh the excitement and anticipation.
Believe me when I say that I know what you mean about REI. I live less than a mile from one, along with two bike shops. It truly is not a good situation. My wife, Patti, has already informed me that I may have to get a part-time job at one of the three.
I thanked and blamed Jill in Alaska, and now you, for planting the
seed to do the Arrowhead 135 next year. I'm only considering it at this point. Trying to figure out how to pull it off.
