May 26th??

I'm not sure it's May 26th based on the weather. Today is Memorial Day and like most people in the United States I have the day off. Most of it was spent cleaning the house. I steam cleaned the entire main floor and staircase to the second floor. Susan decided to host a baby shower for a co-worker tomorrow after work. There will be as many as 30 people in our house. Since we bought this house 5 years ago we've only had two or three social events at our house. And I will tell you I won't be present for this one. I'm not one for big crowds of people where the art of small talk is required. I will be rescuing the dog from having to endure the chaos. He is a calm dog most of the time, but he can't handle the crowds any better than I can. So the two of us will get in a 2 or 3 hour hike tomorrow evening.

Yesterday I felt like I needed a day off the bike. So that's what I did...I didn't ride a bike all day. We ended up catching the new Indy Jones movie. I liked it. I didn't have many expectations for a fourth film in a series. I felt this film delivered exactly what I expected from a Indiana Jones flick. Entertainment, and big adventure without a lot of gore. I don't care for all the blood and guts of modern day films.

After a day off the bike I was really itching to get back out. After the carpet cleaning I decided to get out for a short one. It happened to be raining, foggy, windy and a temp of 41 degrees at 3 in the afternoon. It felt more like November. I've learned if I wait for nice weather to ride, I'd never get out very often. Plus I'd rather ride outdoors in any weather than pedal nowhere on trainer. I rode directly into the wind for 13 miles. My layers were saturated and I wasn't staying completely warm so I turned around. My hands and a few toes got pretty darn cold, but I still enjoyed getting out.

May: 625 miles
2008: 3,030 miles

I've been meaning to catch the new Indy film, but due to this being the start of tourist season, I may wait awhile. Not a crowd person either. Glad to know it's worth seeing.

I'm with you brother. I'm not into crowds nor hosting social events. We've had several large family gatherings at our place and it's a good deal of work. Clean before and again after.
When the girl friends come over, I vanish.

Here's something I've learned the hard way - don't make your house the nicest in the family. Our house has turned into party central. I'm not happy about it, but it's hard to fight city hall.

benjamin...It's a seat that came on my wife's Bianchi Strada. She upgraded to a Terry and I got the used one. Nothing fancy, it's probably a $20 seat. I don't have issues with seats, most of the time. Cheap seats work just as well for me as expensive ones.

Hey Doug,

What tyres are they on your Surly?

Welshcyclist...The tyres are Schwalbe Marathon Plus 700c x 35. Love them. The past few years I ran 700c x 28 Continental Ultra-Gatorskins. I would highly recommend those as well. I love the ride the wider Schwalbes give me on the rough roads around our parts.
