A splendid summer day.

Today was the perfect summer day (except for the part where I had to go to work for 8 hours). Sunny, crisp blue skies with no haze, very low humidity, temps around 80, and a light breeze. Doesn't get much better. I took a different way to work today. I don't usually go through downtown to get to work. I stay up in the hills.
Today I went down to Canal Park to catch a look at the three tall ships that sailed into the harbor yesterday. That's not one of them above. That's a salty I spotted with my first glimpse of the harbor. Two tugs are maneuvering it into the harbor. A "salty" is an ocean going ship that came up through the St Lawrence Seaway and the great lakes.
The tall ships are here for a maritime celebration of some sort.
Not something you see around these parts very often.
After work I tried to point the bike towards home. I had a lot of things to do before we head out of town for three days.
The bike wouldn't let me go straight home. Instead we headed east instead of west. Took a ride over Hawk Ridge. Stopped to snap the above and below picture.

After a ride down Seven Bridges Road, I headed back through town via the Lakewalk. Lots of tourism activity going on today.

What a great day!

August: 32 miles
2008: 4,491 miles

Check out the latest frame from David Wages at Ellis Cycles. A road frame he built for himself. Beautiful!!

Hey Doug, sure did look like a great day for riding. I'm glad you had a great day. It's nice to get one of those days when your riding just goes right for you. I really like that picture of the LHT on the bridge. Nicely done. Peace.

Hey Doug,

I've been reading The Adventures of Ketchup and Mustard (crazyguyonabike.com) and they passed through Duluth recently, staying at Bob and Ani's. I didn't know if you know them. Sounded like good MN hospitality.

I wish I had known Ketchup and Mustard were passing through. I wasn't following their trip report, but I was aware of them from Vik mentioning them. I didn't realize their route would take them through Duluth. Interesting they found Duluth roads so bad. Confirms what I already knew.

Glad you got those pics of the tall ships. I was out of town, but if I had gone, the bike was the only way to get there with all the traffic. It was crazy just getting out of town!

I find it difficult to ride directly to work on days like that.

There have been occasions where I have decided I needed a mental health day and chose to ride my bike instead of going to work. I think my co-workers can tell when I have done this because afterwards the mental sunshine seems to show.

Beautiful photos -- looks like a great ride.

I bit the bullet and got a Long Haul Trucker, in part inspired by yours. I can't wait to get to do a proper ride!

Ah wooden boats and bikes.... can it get better? You may have done it already. But could do a little write about the long haul trucker. I am interested in that bike and talked to a salesman today about it for commuting purposes (I am infatuated with my Fuji- bit realize its infatuation). Kind of like my first girlfriend... fun, intreging, inspiring even.... but I'm not readyto get married.
