My Ellis Cycle frame is done and ready for paint.
Dave Wages at Ellis Cycles sent me an email to announce my frame is done and ready for paint. He also posted an update on his blog. He sent along a file of pictures of the some of the frame building process. I couldn't decide what pictures to post, so I posted them all. With my small frame size there were some design challenges. The seat stay cable stop for the Paul Racer center pull brakes being one of them. Dave worked some magic and I think it turned out great.

You'll notice in later pics that the three cantilever spring holes on the posts are gone. Dave removed them because they aren't needed with the Paul Racer Brakes.
Originally Dave was going to hide the rack strut mounts by using stainless steel water bottle braze on mounts on the inside of the seat stays. That set-up would have caused some clearance issues with the rack struts and brake cables. He ended up using the hour glass shaped braze ons instead.
You can see how high he had to position the seat stay cable stop on this small frame. It will look great once painted and built up.

My small frame size also prevented Dave from putting on a frame pump peg on the back of the head tube for a frame pump.
Dave said he'd have it to the painter tomorrow or Friday. It will be a dark blue with white head tube and a white panel on the seat tube.Labels: Ellis Cycles

beautiful.
Doug,
It's gorgeous. Everything is so well thought through -- I'm very impressed. I can't wait to see how it looks painted.
You don't look short in your hiking photos? Hey, at least you can pick up a dropped sandwich quicker and you fit on a bus seat properly. Something I can't do.
That frame is just stunning. Can't wait to see the paintjob.
Wow Doug! That looks incredible! I'm stoked for you! Thanks for sharing the process with us. Cheers.
Beautiful. I love watching this process.
Ya know, people usually put an "NSFW" tag on their posts when they're going to put up porn like this.
You gotta be bursting, that's the bee's knees right there. Gorgeous!
Awesome Doug...looking forward to your first ride report!
