Afternoon snow shower
What an amazing couple of rides today.
It started with a sunrise commute this morning. I had four deer run across the road directly in front of me on the way to work. The deer herd that lives in the city has been very active the last week with above normal temperatures and no snow on the ground.
Well, no snow until this afternoon. There was a forecast for an inch or two of snow. Since we've had way more predictions of snow coming than what we get in reality, you stop believing the forecasts. This time the snow came.
Between noon and 3:00 the snow was coming down fast. In that amount of time we got almost two inches of snow. It had mostly stopped snowing by the time I left work. I took the long way home on some lightly traveled city streets. It was another sloppy mess.
The side streets that don't get heavy traffic and immediate snow removal attention still looked like this.
The roads that had been salted, sanded and plowed were a sloppy wet mess. It's these kind of conditions which motivated me to build the low maintenance belt drive bike with an internally geared hub.
I was so loving the chance to ride in the snow that I took a longer way home. It added 7 extra miles to my afternoon commute.
This picture above is from the exact same spot as the first sunrise picture at the top of this post. What a difference nine hours can make.
And then the clouds started to break up. Within minutes it went from cloudy and gray to clear and sunny. It was simply glorious to ride home the last few miles in sunshine with fresh snow all around.
Share the joy.

Being of Polish heritage, I am glad to see someone from Polska following this blog:O)
Beautiful. There is true adventure and bike love in this post.
Happy for you.
The only thing missing was a photo of your grinning face.
Hello Dean, from Polska indeed! And our blogging host seems to have drawn quite a company here - nice to meet you too, what a party -:)
Braving the elements is something that we over here in Europe do not need to experience to such an extent. Doug's commute is heroic exploits comapred to mine - that's why it's fun for me to be here.
- serdecznie wszystkich pozdrawiam-
(- best regards for evryone - in case you need to brush up the language a bit ..-:)
I just checked my blog stats. Apparently I'm quite a draw in Poland. I had visits from 27 different countries in the last 24 hours. The top three were:
1) US
2) Canada
3) Poland
Welcome all the readers from Poland.
Lovely passing of time.
AWESOME pics, especially the ones with the Surly!

Thanks for your welcome Doug, now I'll enjoy your company all the more.
Not sure about why the rest of my compatriots are your guests here, I like the authenticity of your approach, the way your reports relate to the reality - they are substantial - like the dollar of yesteryear with its parity in gold -:)
